One of the fastest growing areas of rowing is Ocean Racing we manufacture oars designed specifically
for the harsh conditions of open water racing. We manufacture oars for a wide variety of boats
therefore we have a wide range of oar lengths available.
Shafts avaliable for Ocean Racing
| S3 Intermediates (Sculling) |
Designed for all uses. They are excellent for racing at all levels and for high
performance school use. They have the same shaft stiffness as the S2 Soft and the greater mass
in the shaft improves durability. The S3 is less sensitive in high winds and bad weather. They
have more weight in hand than the Superlight therefore offer more stability during recovery
for the not so elite rower. |

Slick Blade
The Slick Sculling Blade can be assembled with a 40mm hook for S2 and S2 Soft shafts and
a 50mm hook for S2 Stiff shafts, for those who want a heavier load at the catch. A smaller
blade is available for women and schoolgirls who want slightly lighter load at the catch.
Slick Blades are available on all shafts.
The Slick Blade is the latest CAD CAM computer generated design that supersedes all other
blade shapes. The Slick Blade is now available with closed edges, which improves the blades
durability and overall performance.
The Slick Blade has no ridgeline so there is less splash at the catch. The low volume blade
enters the water quickly and quietly and floats low in the water. The longitudinal curvature
is perpendicular to the tip and so is in line with the flow of water. It has a constant pitch
across the tip and all lines parallel to the tip.
The gentle asymmetric curvature of the blade assures a clean release from the water with
every stroke. Slick Blades are visibly cleaner than other blades. The Slick Blade does not
exhibit any negative tendencies during recovery or in bad weather. Since the Slick Blades
introduction it has been extremely successful at all levels of rowing. |
Macon Blade
The Macon blades are the original blade design. This blade was first manufactured in timber.
Although the Macon blade is not used in the racing world, recreational rowers prefer them
and they are a good blade for learners. The Macon blade is available on all shafts upon request. |
Sculling
Handles
We have designed our sculling handles with comfort and ease of use as our highest priority.
Selecting a handle that is correct for you is necessary to achieve the best performance.
A handle that is too small will cause trouble in the rough water and may turn in the rower’s
hand uncontrollably. A handle that is too big will fatigue the rower’s forearms and
also result in excessive wrist movement feathering the oar. All our sculling handles come
fitted with our injection moulded thermoplastic grips. These second-generation grips have
gained universal acceptance since their release and all include an anti-bacterial agent
to stop the growth of bacteria and fungus. From the initial work that we have done, there
seems to be a strong correlation between hand size (measured from the base of the thumb
and the tip of the fingers) and preferred grip size. We have collected enough data so that
we are now able to print a simple chart relating hand size to grip size for sculling and
rowing. This will enable coaches to order the most suitable handles, particularly for school
rowers.
The handles are available in three sizes small medium and large:
Small handle fit pink grip
Medium handle fit yellow grip and blue grip
Large handle fit grey grip and green grip
Sculling handles fitting guide:
Pink (small) 31mm outside diameter fits onto small handle
Yellow (Intermediate) 34mm outside diameter fits onto medium handle
Blue (standard) 35 mm outside diameter fits onto medium handle
Grey (large) 37mm outside diameter fits onto large handle
Dark grey (extra large) 39mm outside diameter fits onto large handle |
Sculling
Sleeves
All Croker sculling oars are fitted with a copolymer interlocking injection moulded sleeve and
button system. The sculling sleeves come in two parts: the sleeve body and the clip (back). The
inboard measurements are calibrated on the back of the clip. The geometry of the sculling sleeve,
if combined with rowlocks that have a 95-degree inside corner, provides excellent stability at
the catch. The sculling clips can be replaced as required without removing the sleeve.
For the ultimate test in endurance these oars have been designed to give you the the very best in safety and durablity as well as a lightweightness that the S3 shaft provides.

Whale Boat Oars
Whale boat rowing is growing in its popularity across the world. Croker has developed an oar type specific to the needs of this form of rowing, it comes in a suitable lengths and stiffnesses, to give you either a racing advatage or a comfortable and durable rowing oar suitable for club rowing.
Shafts avaliable for Whale Boat Rowing

Whale Blade Shapes
Standard Whale blade
The Standard Surf Oar blade is designed with a prominent ridgeline and 100mm hook. These
blades are similar in shape to their timber predecessors.
This blade design has been around for the past 10 years, ample time to prove its durability and strength. The unpredictable
nature of surfboat rowing places tremendous stress on the components of the oar. Those carbon composite blades have proven
themselves up to the challenge. This blade is now available with closed edges, which improves the blades durability and
overall performance. The Surf blade is standard issue on all oars and great for all level of rowers.
Whale Boat Oars Handle Shapes
We have designed our surf handles with comfort and ease of use as our highest priority.
We have standard timber and carbon handles available on all surf oars. Recently we have released
two sizes in our carbon handle range. The carbon handles have been largely accepted since
their release for numerous reasons; they are strong, stiff and thinner than the timber handle.
The carbon handle is extremely easy to replace if broken or damaged. All carbon handles are
fitted with a blue foam rubber, which contains an anti-bacterial agent that last for the
life of the rubber. The sanitising process is effective against a large number of bacteria
and fungi.

Standard timber handle – 45mm
The standard timber handles have a 45mm diameter and come standard in all Croker Surf
Oars. The timber handle is the only non-composite product still in the surf oar. The timber
handle is glued in.
Standard carbon handle – 45mm/42mm
The standard carbon handle has been designed with a larger inside hand measurement of
45mm diameter and a smaller outside hand measurement of 42mm diameter. This has been designed
for better control and ease of feathering the oar. The inside hand measurement is the same
thickness as the standard timber handle. The carbon handles can be easily removed.
Small carbon handle – 42mm
The small carbon handle has been designed with a smaller overall handle diameter. This
handle is great for women and junior crews. For those with smaller hands this handle will
help minimise forearm fatigue caused by using a larger handle.

Adaptive Rowing Oars
The fixed seat adaptive rowing oars are designed so that they have a shorter inboard. A normal spread would be about 286mm. Adaptive rowing oars are shorter in length varying between 250 - 270mm
Shafts avaliable for Adaptive Rowing
There is a new shaft that is avaliable for order. Please contact Croker Oars for more information.
